Hostels are great for travelling on a budget. They can save you a ton of money as well as provide you with a truly unique experience along the way. While they are fantastic for meeting new friends and getting to know people from different cultures all around the world, hostelling is not ideal for all.

Big, shared dorms and constantly changing roommates can make things seem impersonal and alien for those of us who value our home comforts. Fortunately, with the right advice and a bit of creativity, you can easily customise your hostel experience to turn it into a home away from home.

Things you never knew about the Blue Mountains, NSW



The Blue Mountains region is just 80km from Sydney and this World Heritage area is home to around 162,000 people and over 400 types of animal. We booked a tour through Oz Trails and experienced some of the best lookouts and bushwalks, as well as a visit to Katoomba.

The mountain range is huge and we only saw part of it on our day tour but I got to learn a lot about the area. If you don't know much about the Blue Mountains, or want some reasons to visit, here are some things you might not know about this beautiful part of New South Wales:
